Ministry of Information and Communications Holds Roundtable to Support Overseas Expansion of Digital Companies

On February 23, the Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications held a roundtable titled “Vietnam Digital Technology Enterprise Goes to the World” in Hanoi. The event, organized for the first time, aimed to support Vietnamese digital companies in expanding overseas. Participants included Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, other government officials, digital companies, and representatives from foreign government agencies.

At the roundtable, local ICT companies shared their experiences in developing software for the Japanese market. FPT, a leading private ICT company, established its Japanese subsidiary in 2005 and now operates over ten offices across Japan. Chairman Duong Gia Binh emphasized the importance of language training for entering foreign markets and highlighted FPT University, which the company operates in Vietnam. Meanwhile, NTQ Solutions, a mid-sized ICT company, was represented by President Phan Thanh Nam, who reported that since entering the Japanese market in 2016, the company has expanded its business through joint product development with Japanese firms.

Following these presentations, Takeo Nakajima, Director of JETRO Hanoi, introduced the current status of Japanese investment in Vietnam and collaboration cases between Japanese and Vietnamese companies in the digital sector. Government agencies and industry associations from Europe, the U.S., South Korea, and India also presented information on their investment environments and regulations. Toward the end of the event, an advisory group composed of Vietnamese government officials and experts from related organizations was announced to support the overseas expansion of local digital companies.

In his closing remarks, Minister Hung stated:
“Although relatively few Vietnamese companies have expanded overseas so far, global business contributes to enhancing corporate competitiveness. We hope that the overseas expansion of digital enterprises will become a strong pillar for Vietnam’s sustainable development.”

Of this, new investments accounted for 109 projects (a 78.7% increase from the previous year), totaling USD 426.6 million (a 4.3% increase), both exceeding the figures from the previous year.
