EU and Japan Strengthen Cooperation on Semiconductors – European Commissioner Breton
VOVWORLD) – Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Internal Market responsible for industrial policy at the European Commission, stated on October 3 that the EU plans to strengthen cooperation with Japan on semiconductors, which are increasingly important for economic security.
During his visit to Japan, Breton told Reuters in Tokyo, “Securing the semiconductor supply chain is extremely important.” He noted that dialogues with governments and companies are ongoing regarding cooperation in semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI).
He explained that the EU and Japan will cooperate on monitoring the semiconductor supply chain and promoting exchanges of researchers and engineers. He also indicated that Japan-based semiconductor companies planning to expand into Europe would receive support, including subsidies.
