Vietnam and Japan strengthen cooperation in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

(VOVWORLD) – On the morning of February 27, 2024, Mr. Kiyoshi Serizawa, Director General for Defense Policy of Japan, who was visiting Vietnam to co-chair the 10th Vietnam–Japan Defense Policy Dialogue held in Hanoi, paid a visit to Vietnam’s Department of Peacekeeping Operations and met with its Director, Colonel Pham Manh Thang.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in peacekeeping operations through activities such as mutual visits of delegations, education and training, exchanges, sharing of experiences, technical support, troop deployment, and the organization of conferences and forums related to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The Japanese side proposed that Vietnam send officers to participate in short-term training courses and exercises on peacekeeping to be held in Japan. Japan also reaffirmed its support for capacity building of Vietnamese instructors involved in peacekeeping education and training programs to prepare Vietnam’s engineering units for deployment.

In addition, both sides agreed to jointly organize exchange programs between Vietnamese and Japanese contingents dispatched to UNMISS (United Nations Mission in South Sudan), focusing on cultural, sports, and artistic activities to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.
