Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export value for fiscal year 2023 is projected to reach 5.6 billion USD.

(VOVWORLD) – According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam’s export value of fruits and vegetables in 2023 is forecast to reach a record high of 5.5 to 5.6 billion USD.

Durian, banana, and dragon fruit are among the key agricultural products that have made significant contributions to the growth of not only the fruit and vegetable sector but also the agricultural sector as a whole.

As of the end of October, durian exports reached about 2.1 billion USD, marking an increase of 606% compared to the same period last year — the highest export value among all agricultural products. Over the past eleven months, the export value of fruits and vegetables has reached 5.2 billion USD, up 70% year on year.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said:

“The export growth rate has improved since the third quarter. This result was achieved thanks to the Ministry’s focused implementation of various measures to meet this year’s targets and its flexible trade promotion efforts.”

China remains one of Vietnam’s top importers of fruits and vegetables, followed by the United States, South Korea, and Japan. According to Deputy Minister Tiến, Vietnam and China are expected to soon sign protocols on the export of coconuts, frozen fruits, and watermelons. The implementation of these agreements is expected to further boost the growth of Vietnam’s agricultural exports.

Deputy Minister Tiến also stated:

“Under the protocols signed between Vietnam and China, enterprises and local authorities of both countries will pay close attention to the quality of raw materials, traceability, registration of growing area codes, and packaging facilities. Vietnam is committed to complying with all pledges related to harvesting, pre-processing, and processing stages of agricultural products.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development added that favorable conditions are being created to encourage investors to participate in fruit and vegetable processing, aiming to reduce post-harvest losses and enhance value-added products.
