Vietnam hopes to strengthen relations with ASEAN and Japan

(VOVWORLD) – On the 25th, the 39th ASEAN-Japan Forum was held in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

During the event, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet expressed hope that the comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN and Japan would actively and effectively contribute to promoting inclusive growth for sustainable development in member countries.

Deputy Minister Viet also suggested that both sides strengthen cooperation and high-quality infrastructure development, contributing to ASEAN’s overall development. Furthermore, he called on Japan to support ASEAN member states in achieving their commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, promote energy transition, and address climate change.

Regarding regional and global issues, Deputy Minister Viet requested Japan to support ASEAN’s common position on the East Sea, also known as the South China Sea, particularly in resolving disputes peacefully in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
