Vietnamese Shrimp Exports Performing Strongly

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), annual exports of Vietnamese shrimp have reached approximately USD 3.8 billion, making Vietnam the world’s third-largest shrimp exporter, after India and Ecuador.

Shrimp exports have grown at an average annual rate of 5% over the past five years. Export revenue accounts for about 45% of total seafood exports, and the sector aims to achieve an annual growth rate of 9% by 2025, targeting export revenue of USD 5.6 billion.

In Vietnam, shrimp farming covers approximately 740,000 hectares, producing around 900,000 tons of farmed shrimp annually, with the Mekong Delta region accounting for roughly 80% of the farming area.

Major export markets include:

  • United States: 20–23%

  • Japan: 16–18%

  • European countries: 15–20%

  • China: 13–15%

  • South Korea: 9–10%
